What is No Greater Love?
Founded in 1971, NGL is the only humanitarian, educational, non-profit organization in the United States solely dedicated to providing annual programs of friendship and care for those who lost a loved one in the service of our country or by an act of terrorism.

What is the scope of NGL programs?
NGL, known as the "patriotic conscience of the nation", began 30 years ago sponsoring wreath-layings, remembrance tributes and memorial dedications that bring together families affected by conflicts from World War I to the Gulf War, from hostages in Iran to the terrorists attack on September 11th. NGL has dedicated 11 memorials, located throughout Arlington National Cemetery.

How is NGL Funded?
NGL is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. It is sustained by contributions from the general public, private foundations and corporations, labor unions and through CFC #9890. Less than 9% of all contributions received by No Greater Love are used for administrative or fund-raising expenditures.

What programs has NGL initiated?
Here are just a few examples of the many remembrance ceremonies, events and dedications initiated by NGL:

  • Annual National Moment of Remembrance, initiated in 1997 on Memorial Day: a campaign to put “memorial” back in Memorial Day. All Americans are asked to pause at 3 pm local time, wherever they may be, to honor those who died for our freedom. The National Moment of Remembrance was formally established by an act of Congress on December 28, 2000 and is now sponsored by the White House Commission on Remembrance.
  • First National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans initiated in 1974. The Department of Veterans Affairs now sponsors this annual program.
  • Holiday Remembrance Gifts Send-Off, begun in 1971, an annual tradition of sending holiday gifts to children who lost a parent in service to our country or by an act of terrorism.
  • Annual Tribute to Those Who Died in the Gulf War, begun in 1992 with the cooperation of the people of Kuwait, is the only tribute that brings together annually families whose loved ones died in the Persian Gulf.
  • Pledge of Peace, inaugurated in 1985, was recognized by the United Nations. It has been recited by children throughout the world and at all No Greater Love Ceremonies.
  • Operation Valentine initiated in 1993 to boost the morale of U.S. troops on peacekeeping missions. Throughout February, school children participated in this national campaign sending homemade valentines expressing their heartfelt thanks to our U.S. servicemen and women.
  • Yellow Ribbon Campaign. When Americans were taken hostage in Iran in 1979, NGL spearheaded the National Yellow Ribbon Campaign, as a symbol of America's shared concern for those being denied their freedom, through the wearing of a yellow ribbon.
  • International Commemoration for all Victims of Terrorism, begun in 1984, the only tribute in the world specifically for victims of terrorism.
  • Editor's Choice Awards, 1976, was the first organized national recognition of Vietnam Veterans for their contributions to the nation.
