World War I
November 10, 1989
Arlington National Cemetery, Section 36
Memorial Stone

The idea for No Greater Love’s World War I memorial came during a Veterans Salute baseball game in Philadelphia in 1989.  After the Salute co-sponsored by No Greater Love, the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association, and the Philadelphia Phillies, the World War I veterans told the sponsors this was the “biggest” recognition they had received since their World War I Homecoming in 1918.  This prompted No Greater Love to establish a memorial to assure the approximately 108,000 World War I veterans still living that they and their buddies would never be forgotten.

The memorial here is a reflection in stone of the sad truth that the liberties we enjoy were gained and preserved for us by the pain, the suffering, and the death of our fellow Americans.  We remember because we cannot afford to forget.
